What follows is an actual discussion within the LL University campus lounge. A new Lifestyle101 student was considering stepping up to Lifestyle180 but was very afraid she’d fail again and it’d be a waste of everyone’s time and her money. She wrote …
“Everything makes perfect sense, yet I am afraid that my dedication is not going to last. My husband eats what ever he wants and the temptation for me to eat what he eats if often to great for me to resist. But I am 59 years old and don’t want to enter my 60’s with failing health due to my being over weight. It is just so much easier to be lazy and say what the heck and eat what I want. I eat out of boredom and I eat according to my emotions. Can your program really help me? This is my question….will this be the time I succeed or am I wasting my money and your time?”
Hi [name removed]!
I see myself in you so much that it is scary! I want to tell you so much, but I’m going to keep it simple.
First, a little about me. I’m an Assistant Coach here. I started my first Lifestyle 180 in February 2011. Since then, I have lost over 100 lbs. I had serious doubts when I joined. I wanted to believe that LLU would work for me, but I truly didn’t think it would. I’d tried and failed too many times to get my hopes up. But something called me here and I promised myself that I would give it my all. I’m glad I did.
In a nut shell, yes! This is the place for you. This is not just a place where we will teach you to eat less and exercise more. We’ll help you address those emotional issues as well. That is what I found missing from many of the other programs I’ve tried. Believe me when I tell you that I’ve darn near tried them all. Seriously. If this hadn’t been successful, I was considering weight loss surgery.
You may be hesitant to believe me as I am a Asst. Coach here. However, I am sure that over the next few days, our students will chime in to share their personal stories and opinions. That’s another thing that makes LLU a special place. This is a tight knit community who will support you every step of the way.
I am so impressed that you reached out with your question! I’m guessing that may have been a difficult thing to do. Please stay tuned. Hear what others have to say, and feel free to ask more questions.
Oh, and by the way, regarding it being easier to “be lazy and say what the heck and eat what I want.” I’m betting that in fact is not such an easy life for you. If it were, you wouldn’t be here looking for an alternative. Just a thought…
You are in the right place. I have witnessed so many transformations from people from all walks of life and age groups. I’d love for you to join us so in a few months, you can look back at this post and say “Wow! Look what I accomplished, even though I had serious doubts”.
Hi [name removed],
Kudos to you for reaching out. You already have some good insights. I have no idea what your history for weight loss is, but almost everyone here has had multiple attempts prior to finding this program, with varying degrees of success and relapse.
I considered this program multiple times before I concluded that I had the true desire to succeed and was capable of the dedication it would require. I am 65 and want to live as healthfully as I can for what is likely to be another 35 years. The women in my family are generally long lived.
I just finished a 20 week program. I will continue for as long as I need to to reach my goal and be confident in my ability to use the skills I have developed to maintain a healthy weight and a healthful lifestyle.
Here is what I found was true for me:
Embracing the program completely. Accepting every challenge. Taking it one day at a time. Meeting or exceeding everything that was asked if me. Realizing that there is a significant time commitment. PLANNING ahead, so that I don’t get caught with excuses to eat off plan. Realizing that if I do what is asked I will not lose focus. Let my husband follow what I do or take responsibility for himself.
Those are a few things that made this work for me. There are many more. You deserve to be healthy. You can make the choices that will take you there.
Hello [name removed], So glad you are in LL! Stay with this and give it the best you’ve got. Nobody is perfect here and we all fall on our face at times (it’s called being human 🙂 ) You have struck gold with the people and program here! You will not only learn about nutrition and activity in regard to your health but you will become educated on emotional issues as well. Do what you have already started doing…reach out to others and be honest. We all know how hard it is to lose weight yet so many of us ignore how hard it is to be overweight. “When we are no longer able to change a situation – we are challenged to change ourselves”
[name removed], I want to reassure you that this is the program for you. Trust me! I am 64 and have the best body of my entire life. And I have a spouse like your’s, who eats junk and isn’t fat so I understand the struggles you have with that aspect. But no other program (and I tried them all) worked. Email me privately if you need any more convincing. Paula
[name removed] – I wanted to throw my two cents in here….. actually, it might be a solid dime. : -)
I almost didn’t do the program because I felt I couldn’t fail one more time – I had this crazy thought in my head that it was better to stay fat and unhealthy than it was to fail again. I’ve tried everything – the most drastic being fasting, and then putting HCG shots in my stomach daily. If I had all the money I have spent on weight loss – girl – I’d have a lot. I took a leap of faith. I decided to join – take one day at a time, and just do what I was told – even if I did it in tears, kicking and screaming and acting a fool. This is the best thing I’ve ever done. I wish I could give you a booster shot of hope – cause really – I hope you will just click ‘join’ today – grab on – and prepare for the ride of your life. I’m here if you’d ever like to talk – phone, email – or private message. I so hope you do this. xo
[name removed], The fact that you posted this on the lounge is such a huge step, you have no idea! All of the advice you have already gotten from our recent grads is so true – I could repeat every word. The biggest reason this worked for me (and nothing else worked in the past) is because it’s EDUCATIONAL, but in small bites so as to not overwhelm. You get the information you need right at the time you need it. The other biggest reason is the support you get. Not “automated responses” but REAL LIVE SUPPORT. The coaches and most of the students and grads are on the site every day and I found when I was struggling with something, someone else was struggling with the same thing. Add those 2 things together with MOTIVATION that I got from coaches as well as other students – it kept me going the 20 weeks to fantastic results. Better results than I ever expected.
You have already taken the first step, that is one step closer than many people ever get. Give L180 a chance – I promise you will not regret it!
Hi [name removed],
You ARE in the right place. You CAN do it, and it is SO worth it.
Your health, and your self-esteem, are not places where you should “settle” for anything but your dreams. I’ll say it again–you CAN do it, this IS the right place, and it is SO worth it.
Hi [name removed]:
DO IT! You will be so glad that you did! Take that 1st step towards making your dreams finally come true!
Some of the things you’re saying remind me SO MUCH OF ME when I first joined in 2006, particularly the exercise. When you said “I’m lazy”, that’s me also! Yet, Coach literally turned me from a couch potato, to someone who now exercises regularly 5-6 days/week as a HABIT. He took it slowly, first starting out with walking 30 minutes/day, then gradually building on that.
I joined via receiving a marketing email. Always the skeptic, I almost didn’t open the email, but after I did, it SOUNDED different, like MAYBE I wouldn’t be disappointed yet again by another weight loss gimmic that promised the moon but delivered nothing. I immediately joined, and it is truly one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself!
I lost 50 lbs, and kept it off for 4 years thru this wonderful program.
Why? Because the Coach knows how to get right to the HEART of the matter, of WHY we overeat, WHY we have the habits we do, and guides through CHANGING those habits. I’ve met countless professionals throughout the years, all over the world, and they just CANNOT duplicate the success here, no matter how hard they try to do so!
Another reason LL is truly the best way out there for permanent weight control, because it can be made to fit within one’s Lifestyle. The weight-loss world is full of gimmicks but LL is the real deal.
Finally, the support here is amazing. You’ll meet new friends who will encourage you every step of the way, and help you to be accountable.
I hope you decide to do it, you will not regret it!
I applaud the first step you took by posting and asking your questions. It is not easy to put yourself out there in front of strangers. If you decided to take the next step and sign up, you will discover that we will no longer be strangers. We will be your supporters and in many cases, friends. We understand. We are all here for the same reasons… we have the burning desire to become fit, lean and healthy.
I remember last year when I finally decided to sign up…I was scared. It seemed that I had tried everything short of surgery. At the time, I thought I would be doing it alone…my family was not going to be overly supportive. I dug deep and finally hit the “sign me up” button…I then cried…literally. I felt relief, a bit of fear and finally, hope.
Fast forward to present time and I am healthy, nearly 80 pounds lighter and HAPPY. I believe in this program to the point that I am now an assistant coach. I would not continue to put the time and energy into something that I did not know can work.
As Wanda mentioned, you will learn how to deal with the emotional side of your eating as well. For me, that was huge!
As far as the exercise goes, don’t let that deter you. You will not be expected nor pushed to jump into some crazy regimen. Promise.
I have so much more I could say, but will leave it at this for now. If you have any more questions or concerns, please ask. We are all here for you.
[name removed], I knew about this program for nearly 4 years before I was ready to join…I saw the results first hand in my brother and sister in law, and it still took me 4 years to be ready to start the journey.
I was extremely overweight- obese in fact, and didn’t exercise at all. I used to spend the whole weekend on the couch and eating out…or pigging out to be exact. I too was very fearful of the exercise, heck I got winded walking up to my bedroom on the second floor, how was I going to work out???
But others are right…if you can walk you can do this! I started out walking very slow, and no incline on my treadmill, and just since February I have worked my way up to a very fast pace of 4 mph walking at a 5% incline….I did not think this was possible. So I want you to know that you can do this and you have tons of support on this journey.
The really fantastic part about this program…and trust me there are tons of really fantastic parts, is that the community is amazing and super supportive. If you have any questions or are struggling or simply need to vent we are all here…and the beauty is that we have probably felt exactly the way you feel or have gone through the exact same thing that you are going through….so the advice is always spot on.
I am so glad you joined and will be taking this journey with us!
As you can tell by the responses to your post, this group will support you every step of the way on your journey.
And yes, this program CAN help you. This program is for real! Welcome to the chance of a lifetime!
I am 57 and I have been VERY overweight for a VERY long time. I too was concerned about entering my 60s unhealthy and overweight, actually I was concerned that I may not even enter my 60s at all.
I will be honest with you, this program is intense. I can also honestly say it is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. With the support and direction of David Greenwalt and his staff of coaches, I have lost 104lbs in 10 months (100 of those in 9 months). I encourage you to do everything that Coach (David) tells you to do and if you do, I guarantee you will have miraculous results.
I know that I feel better than any food ever tasted. I can now exercise with the best of them, and yes, I also took it one step at a time. My life has totally changed and I am a new me. Most of all, I am happy! I wish all these things for you and more. I know that you can find success here!
Please feel welcome to private message me here if you have questions or just need to talk.
[name removed], I sure hope you decide to join LL180. I am 59 yrs old too and was worried about not only being the oldest but the fatest and of course the most unfit. I should have never been concerned about any of that. (I believe it was my negative feelings surfacing – being easier to not start rather than fail again.) The complete opposite happened. Coach helped me with an exercise program that I could do (several have mentioned WALKING). I can now walk 5 miles! A day! I couldn’t walk up the stairs without panting before I started LL180 and it took me weeks…no, it didn’t happen overnight. I also learned how to use resistance bands (I didn’t even know what they were). I can prepare great tasting Healthy meals and honestly, my heartburn is gone! I love the Lounge; you’ll soon discover we all have been down the same road, different scenery but same ruts and detours.
This is the kind of support you get not only from me and your assistant coaches but from other students.
I look forward to working with you very soon if you’re ready.
