Matt from Georgia entered last year’s Lifestyle180 (called Boot Camp then) at 217 pounds. After trying his damndest UNsuccessfully to intellectually will himself into the patterns of behavior necessary to drop his excess fat Matt admits that he really had to call “bullshit” on himself and ask for professional help. He decided right then and there to enter my 20-week weight-loss course. When it was all said and done, after 20 weeks, Matt had lost 48 pounds weighing 169!
Here’s what Matt wrote to me back in January of 2012 when he called bullshit on himself…
“Hey, Coach. Happy New Year! I signed up for Boot Camp 15 earlier today, and I’m looking forward to getting started. I wanted to let you know about an “aha” moment that I had recently.
About 10 days ago, it was mid-January, and I was frustrated and beating myself up mentally for yet again failing to remain committed to my personal, carefully crafted plan to lose weight in the new year. Like many weight fighters, I have started most of my new years with a fresh plan to drop the pounds “once and for all, this year”, and 2012 was no different. Like most of us who have been involved with you for any length of time, I know on an intellectual level what actions I must take to lose weight. But for various reasons, I don’t consistently follow through and take those actions when I attempt to lose weight on my own.
The difference this time – the “aha” moment – was that I finally woke up to the reality of my unsuccessful pattern, and I called “bullshit” on myself. I admitted that if I try the same old strategy, I will almost certainly get the same old results: maybe a few pounds lost, but no lasting weight loss, another year gone by, and yet more frustration with my weight. In that moment, I felt an unusual peace of mind, because I realized that the way to success with weight loss is to stop thinking that I need to fight this battle alone. I am now willing to admit that I need help. That’s why I joined Boot Camp. I cannot wait to get started.
