A common issue is how do you make one meal when you’re a Lifestyler and your family could REALLY care less about eating overly healthy.
First, you don’t need to make two meals. You need to make one extra dish – a carby, starchy and perhaps even fatty-starchy side dish (cheesy potatoes, mac and cheese, pasta in sauce, rice in sauce etc)
Then prepare the following for the table…
- : lean protein (chicken breast, turkey breast, fish) OR fatty protein (ribeye or pork chop or salmon)
- : veggie
- : fruit
- : fatty/carby starch for your family in addition
You, the Lifestyler eat the protein and veggie (if fatty protein) or protein, veggie fruit (if lean protein) and your family eats the protein, fruit and fatty-starch.
This can work for any family.
If your husband/wife/adult-partner won’t eat what’s fixed this way? I say “Go make it your damn self then because I’m not going to eat the poison you like and I’d like to improve our lives with healthier fuel. If you need to live on pizza to feel good about your day then go order it. This is what I’m making. Luv ya!” And if your relationship is SO brittle that fixing a meal like the above is going to tank it? Well you were sunk anyway. Fixing a meal like above is, in its own way, an expression of love and commitment – both to your lifestyle and everyones’ health.
If your kids won’t eat this way? LOL – Then grow a pair and be the adult-parent in your home and get your division of responsibility in order. You decide the WHAT and WHEN for your kids. They decide the WHETHER and HOW MUCH.
My kids were not allowed to run the asylum of our home. Their Mother and I were the wardens of that domain and we set the rules, the tone and THE EXAMPLE for the kids.
What does it say to your kids if you feed them a non-stop hot-dog lifestyle? It says you’re a wimp first of all and if they whine enough they can get what they want. It also says that eating relatively healthy is something adults do – not kids. That’s total crap. My kids ate garbage everyday – not saying kids need only LL foods. But at dinner? The biggee of the family fight? Do what I wrote above and take charge. Stand your ground and do it consistently.
Do you believe in the way of healthier eating or not? If you do? Act like it and fix a meal like what I wrote above consistently. Everyone eats the same except for the fatty-starchy side dish. No reason for a change otherwise.
I welcome your comments!
