The gratitude dance, originally named “Where the hell is Matt?”, has over 39 million views as of this post today.
I like the name “The gratitude dance” better so I’m showing that one.
This video came about with what started as a suggestion by a friend of Matt Harding, the main guy you see in every clip of this video. The friend knew that Matt had a really goofy dance and he suggested that Matt do that dance on video while he had been traveling abroad. He did. This was back in 2003.
Since 2003 Matt has caught the attention of Stride gum and Visa who have both sponsored him on his travels. Before YouTube his video began to be passed around from one email to the next and Matt’s email inbox became overflowing from people all around the world clammering for Matt to come there and dance with them. To say his video went viral would be an understatement.
To be quite honest? The real story on Matt Harding is less inspiring than the video. But sometimes that’s just how it goes. He, not I, describes himself as a 34-year old deadbeat from Connecticut.
I will say this? If you can just block out the world around you, the story behind the story, and just enjoy the video for the inspiration for some kind of world peace or at least in recognizing that we are all a lot more alike than different the video is really a lot of fun to watch. And if you haven’t seen it? 39 million plus have – check it out.
