I don’t know about you but I just don’t watch much news. I don’t watch it because there’s just too much negativity, death, destruction, panic, fear, anxiety, despair and tragedy. Real-life can provide enough of that without the news so no thanks. And the really big stories? They filter down to me soon enough in every instance so I’m not in the dark on the big things.
Instead, I try to keep my eye open for the good things, the positive things. It’s truly a “road less traveled” but I find I’m in better spirits, more pleasant, less of a drain to others and more productive if I follow that pursuit most of the time.
Mondays are traditionally the start of a new week for most. I realize that our police officers, firefighters, nurses and loads of other 24-7 shift workers don’t start their week necessarily on a Monday but Mondays, for most, are the start of the week. So I thought that what might be good, a worthwhile endeavor, would be to do what I do anyway but share it with you every Monday.
There really are good things in this crazy-busy, recessed world we are living in – there really are. Looking for the good isn’t about burying my head in the sand and acting as though there aren’t plenty of things to fear or fret over. Nah, it’s about realizing that I can’t focus on everything and instead choosing to focus more on good and positive than bad and negative. I get it, there are some REALLY sucky things going on, some people really do SUCK, some companies SUCK, some politicians SUCK. I get it. Got it. I am VERY all-too-aware of it.
But there really are some really good people out there. In fact MOST people are good. Many good people do good things every day and don’t put it “out there” for others to see or hear about.
So in keeping with my ideal to look for the good and now to share it at least on Mondays with you here are a few things that came across my radar, that I enjoy, that are guaranteed to be positive if not motivating, and that I hope give you at least one more reason to get back up, dust your knees off, and give this crazy world another shot a bit wiser and with yet another daily lesson learned.
So in my first Monday Motivation post I’m going to share a positive story, a positive quote, something to make you smile or laugh and one positive video. I hope you feel a smidge better after viewing and I welcome your feedback about other positive resources you personally use or your view on this subject.
According to the Associated Press via NPR “Businesses Post Most Job Openings In 3 Years”
I like this quote “If you have made mistakes, there is always another chance for you. You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call ‘failure’ is not the falling down, but the staying down.” – Mary Pickford
I love the humor in the illustration work of Randy Glasbergen. This cracks me up. And I really did pay Randy to use this cartoon.
Really like this video called “The Race”
Have something positive to share? Got a resource I must become familiar with? Got an opinion about all of this? Let me know – would love to hear your comments.
In health,
David
The cartoon made me LOL and the video, WOW, how awesome! Thanks for today’s ray of sunshine.
I absolutely loved the video. I found myself in a bit of a mental funk today after watching an hour of 911 remembrance shows last night. I was mad at myself for letting the horror create havoc with my mental health. Your video reminds me that the human spirit is truly a beautiful thing. Thanks, Coach
Great one. Thanks
Hi
Trying to get the video to work:( No go! I’m sure it is a good one.
Paula, I so agree with you! I wish I would have not got sucked in to all that 9/11 stuff. I ran into several people who felt yucky after re- living that video.
I think it is important to remember the day but we don’t need to see video coverage all day long repeating the nightmare…it is one thing to read it but the visual is too powerful and long lasting, Like you said I too tried not to let it mess with my mind all day long.
May your Mondays be marvelous more often!
