The name of Yael’s charity is Fuck Cancer (FCancer). Why the use of the F word? According to Yael, “Because it’s what everyone is thinking. It’s a head-in-your-hands moment. It’s not sexual or violent. It’s defeated and defiant. It’s OK to have a valid emotion around us, we don’t need to be daffodils and daisies all the time.”
Yael founded FCancer in 2009 after her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Determined to make a real impact within the cancer space, Yael created an organization that activates Generation Y to engage with their parents about early detection, and teaches supporters how to look for cancer instead of just find it.
Over the last year, Yael has grown FCancer into an inspirational and influential player in the charity space. She has attracted a host of A-list celebrities to participate in the movement and use their influence to help garner support from the public. FCancer’s message has also begun to get the attention of some very noteworthy groups; Yael was honored to attend the Next Generation Leadership discussions at the White House. She also shared her inspiring message in person as a speaker at TEDx Vancouver 2010. Through FCancer, Yael has earned the respect and admiration of those who truly have the power to effect change.
Don’t miss FCancer’s new “The Cancer Talk” campaign, starring the Buried Life Boys, Deepak Chopra, Charlie Bewley, Sophia Bush, Hosea Chanchez, Fran Drescher, Adrian Grenier, Perez Hilton, Dan Levy, Terrell Owens, Pauley Perrette, Wilmer Valderrama, and Michael Winslow.
