Too often people focus on what they are giving up. It’s common to go through at least the five stages of grieving/mourning too.
Denial
Anger
Bargaining
Depression
Acceptance
“When I think of all I’ll be giving up I feel sad.” Ever said or felt that as it relates to weight loss and food? Ya, me too.
But there’s another side. I often say “Negative isn’t the only truth.” And “Whatever you focus on grows.”
If you focus on all you are giving up? Guess what’ll happen? You’ll crash and burn. Why? Because the sadness of the give up will grow. It’s your focus.
But for most give-ups there’s also a “get.” What do you GET for the give-up? How do you benefit for giving up ice cream every night? What good comes to you for giving up the junk food? How does your life change for the better when you get off the couch and give up five hours of TV watching every night?
There truly are lots of give ups on the path to a successful body transformation. But for every give-up is a get. Remember to focus on the “gets” and you’ll do much better. It’s not natural but so what? We have to do lots of UNnatural things in this journey to succeed. We can’t rely soley on what feels natural.
Remember, whatever you focus on grows. And negative isn’t the only truth. There’s a “get” for every give-up and there’s a positive or benefit for nearly every perceived negative.
You have the power to choose your thinking and therefore change your feelings and behaviors that follow. Thoughts ARE things – choose to focus on the good, the positive and watch what happens.
