I’ve said for years now that you cannot hate your body to greatness. The path to significant and sustained weight loss is not paved with stones of self-hatred. In fact the contrary is true if you want to lose weight and keep it off.
Hate your calves? Better start making peace with certain things that just can’t be changed. Hate the way your blah blah connects with your blah blah? Rethink HOW you think AND FEEL about all of this.
This isn’t to say that we should all join the fat acceptance groups. No, there ARE things we control and can change. We CAN control body fat and weight. And for those things I say LET’S DO IT!
But what about when you get lean and you STILL hate your arms? Not good. The likelihood of keeping the weight off is two: slim and none. I’ve watched this over and over and over again.
This also follows the law of gratitude in that “Whatever we appreciate grows. Whatever we ignore or look at in disdain dies.”
Appreciate all you can about your body. Make peace with the imperfect parts. You may never become a model for a magazine no matter how much weight you lose. Make peace with that but still become the best you can. It’s honorable. It works.
This article in Science Daily supports the notion that you need to love your body to reduce anxiety and feelings to comfort-eat over those very issues.
